Terms of Service & Privacy Policy

NodeHood is a mobile app and hyper-local community platform operated by a registered company (KvK number 17229900, Eindhoven). By creating an account or using NodeHood as a guest, you agree to the terms below. Please read this document in full.

1. Nature of the NodeHood Service

NodeHood is only a local information platform and a facilitator (Connector) between neighbors - not a contracting company, not an employer, not a government or law-enforcement body, and not a financial marketplace. Through NodeHood you can:

NodeHood has no internal payment system, digital wallet, or financial gateway. All transactions and agreed rewards between users are handled exclusively and directly Peer-to-Peer (P2P), entirely outside the app. For your safety:

NodeHood is not responsible for lost items, personal disputes, or any interaction (in person or otherwise) between users.

2. Eligibility and Age

Using NodeHood requires you to be at least 18 years old. By creating an account or using guest mode, you confirm you meet this age requirement and have the legal capacity to accept these terms. NodeHood does not knowingly collect data from users under 18; if we become aware of such an account, we will delete it promptly. You are solely responsible for all activity on your account.

3. Registration and Authentication

4. User Content and Content Rules

You may publish content on NodeHood such as: help/promotional ads, Neighborhood Watch reports, photos, comments, and private chat messages. By publishing any content, you confirm that:

We maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward fraudulent, immoral, or illegal content. Reported content is reviewed by our team or regional admins. Some content (e.g., repeatedly reported comments) may be automatically hidden temporarily pending admin review. Users who violate these terms may receive a warning, a temporary suspension, or a permanent ban, depending on severity.

5. Neighborhood Watch - Important Disclaimer

The "Neighborhood Watch" feature exists for informal information-sharing between neighbors about local issues (e.g., broken public infrastructure, disturbances, or non-emergency safety concerns).

6. Moderation and Admin Hierarchy

NodeHood has a system of regional/category admins with authority - within a defined geographic area or category - to review reports, send official/promotional notices, and manage violating content. This authority is always limited to what has been delegated by NodeHood's core admin team and can never exceed the granting admin's own access level. Admins are part of the NodeHood team or vetted volunteers, not official employees of any government body.

7. NodeHood Blue Badge (Identity Verification)

Users may voluntarily apply for a "NodeHood Blue Badge" to verify their address/identity.

8. Location Data (GPS)

NodeHood processes your location for: calculating distance to other ads/reports, filtering content relevant to your area, and (where needed) confirming the region you are currently in to determine the correct sign-in method (Section 3a). Your precise coordinates are never shared with other users; only an approximate distance or proximity is shown. This data is never sold or rented to third parties for marketing.

9. Push Notifications

To notify you of new messages, official notices, or report status updates, NodeHood uses push notification services to deliver alerts to your device. These services require a device token (not your full identity) to deliver notifications. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.

10. AI-Powered Automatic Translation

To display content (ads, neighborhood reports, comments, chat messages, notices) in your selected language, NodeHood uses machine translation services (currently Google Gemini, with Google Translate as a fallback). The original text written by another user is sent to these services for translation. Machine translation may not always be fully accurate; NodeHood is not liable for misunderstandings arising from translation errors. The original text (in the author's language) is always preserved in our database; translation is for display purposes only.

11. Financial Transactions, Payments, and Rewards

As noted in Section 1, any payment, fee, or reward (cash, gift, or otherwise agreed) between users happens entirely outside the NodeHood app and is the full responsibility of the parties involved. NodeHood plays no role in these transactions (not an intermediary, guarantor, or fund holder).

12. Legal Disclaimer and Prohibited Services

NodeHood has no control over the quality, safety, or legality of ads or services offered by users, and performs no criminal background checks. NodeHood bears no responsibility for accidents during work, bodily injury, or property damage (e.g., damage during moving or repairs); full responsibility rests directly with the parties involved.

13. Insurance

NodeHood provides no insurance coverage for users or their property. Users are encouraged to maintain appropriate personal liability insurance consistent with the laws and common practices of their country of residence.

14. Taxes and Employment

NodeHood is only a facilitator, has no employment relationship with users, and reports no earnings to tax authorities. Calculating and paying any tax or duty owed on amounts received is solely the user's responsibility.

15. Intellectual Property

The NodeHood name, logo, UI design, and source code are protected under international copyright law. Copying, reverse engineering, or unauthorized use of our APIs is prohibited and may result in legal action. Content you publish (text/photos) remains yours; by posting on NodeHood, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to display it on the platform.

16. Data Controller and GDPR Compliance

NodeHood acts as the Data Controller for personal data processed through the app.

17. Your Rights Under GDPR

If your data falls under EU regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email support@nodehood.com.

18. Additional Notice for Certain Regions

NodeHood operates in some regions that do not currently have a direct legal equivalent of GDPR. Where this applies, please note:

19. Other International Users

NodeHood strives to apply the general privacy and data-protection principles described in Sections 16 and 17 consistently to all users, regardless of region. However, depending on your local laws, additional rights or obligations may exist that are not fully covered by this document.

20. Cookies and Local Storage

NodeHood uses secure on-device storage (rather than traditional web cookies, since this is a mobile app) to maintain your login session and preferences (such as language). These are essential for the app to function correctly and securely.

21. Free Model

NodeHood is currently free for all users. We reserve the right to introduce a subscription model or service fees in the future, with at least 30 days' notice before such changes take effect.

22. Suspension and Termination

NodeHood reserves the right to suspend or permanently ban an account, with or without prior notice, in the event of a violation of these terms. You may also close your account at any time via "Delete Account".

23. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the app or email. Continued use of NodeHood after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

24. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which NodeHood's operating company is registered (see Business Registration above), without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Regardless of this clause, any mandatory consumer-protection rights available to you under the laws of your own country of residence remain fully unaffected.
